Everywhere, USA, January 2012— Indeed, January of this year marks the beginning of a planned phase-out of inefficient light bulbs in the United States that was signed into law five years ago by President George W. Bush.
It was designed to reduce energy usage from lighting up things nationally by some 30 percent overall within three years. The benefits of the phase-out will be a savings of between $100 and $200 annually on electric bills in each American household—a total equivalent to the output of 30 large power plants—and a reduction in global warming-inducing carbon pollution equivalent to taking 17 million cars off the road.
The first bulbs to disappear from store shelves are conventional 100 watt incandescents, but consumers can get compact fluorescent (CFL) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs with similar light output instead. There are also some new more efficient incandescent bulbs that made the cut and will be available as replacements for conventional incandescents. |

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, April 2011— Although most realize that the current energy crisis must be initially dealt with by concentrating on the “here and now” (as in allowing more drilling, releasing reserves and ensuring no market gouging is causing the price of gasoline to jump based on manipulation), the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association this month lauded a new roadmap from the International Energy Agency (IEA) that reaffirms the critical role of biofuels in the future of global energy supplies. http://www.iea.org/papers/2011/biofuels_roadmap.pdf |

Minneapolis, Minnesota, March 2011 — As Kermit the Frog told warned us years ago, it’s not easy being green, and partially or completely covering the roof of your home or building with growing vegetation isn’t a simple task.
As human beings, we are not passive to the color of things: We continually respond in various ways to the hues before us throughout out lives, from the flags of our countries to the shade of a person’s eyes. And lately, it seems that ‘green’ is becoming the color of the day. |
