Washington, D.C., June 2011– Sisters Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne decided awhile back to trade in their careers (fashion and private equity) to pursue something a little sweeter, which was their passion for artful cupcakes. And so, Georgetown Cupcake was born. Both lifelong bakers inspired by their grandmothers, Katherine and Sophie opened Georgetown Cupcake in February 2008 as D.C.’s first and only “cupcakery”. The quaint shop was initially tucked away on Potomac Street, before moving to the bustling M Street area, attracting many tourists, locals, and even celebrities.
