Columbia, Missouri, May 2010 — Holistic Health Practitioner Pamela Heyen advises us that most people today are unaware of the healing properties of therapeutic essential oils.

These oils are some of the most powerful therapeutic agents known to man, and have been used throughout history for healing and anointing. There are many references recorded in the Bible treating almost every ailment known to man at that time. The Egyptians used frankincense, myrrh, lotus, cedar wood, and sandalwood oils in their mummification process, and oils such as clove, lemon, cinnamon ( all of which are highly antibacterial)l were used for their antiseptic properties.

Sadly, the therapeutic values of these oils have been generally overlooked in the past 100 years, due primarily to their commercial use for their aromas and flavorings. The healing properties of the oils were all but forgotten, and the processing used destroyed their therapeutic biochemistry.

Essential oils are the life blood of the plant. Their chemistry is complex and consists of hundreds of different unique compounds. The distillation process is what makes these oils so concentrated and is what determines their purity and therapeutic value.

Many of these oils are highly antibacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal and have been scientifically proven to eradicate some of the most serious infections presently known. They have also been found to stimulate the regeneration of tissue or nerves and to carry nutrients to the cells, as well as oxygenate them. They have the ability to rapidly penetrate cell membranes, travel throughout blood and tissues, and enhance cellular function, even passing through the blood brain barrier.

There are three ways in which you can derive benefits from essential oils. The French recommend ingestion and topical application of therapeutic grade oils; the English advocate diluting the oils in a vegetable, or carrier oil and massaging the body to relieve stress and induce relaxation. The German recommendation focuses on inhalation of the essential oils which exerts strong effects on the brain. Their ability to act on both mind and body shows how versatile and powerful the essential oils can be.

Some essential oil fragrances can be stimulating both physically and emotionally, while others may be sedating and calming in their effect. Physiologically they have been known to stimulate immune function and regenerate damaged tissue — and have the ability to kill infectious diseases. Scientific research is being done currently on their possible use in the treatment of cancer.

Ms. Heyen tells us it is vitally important to note that not all essential oils are pure or therapeutic grade. Only pure, therapeutic grade essential oils should be ingested. With that said, anything that cannot be ingested should not be applied to the skin. The skin being the largest organ of the body absorbs whatever is put on it, into it. Therefore any adulterated essential oil which my contain chemicals should not be used on the skin or be ingested.

Heyen began her natural health education after regaining her own health through natural remedies and therapies. Her credentials were obtained through Australasian College of Health Sciences in Portland, Oregon.

She uses her personal health related experience, combined with her formal training to educate, encourage and support the option to heal with natural therapies and pure therapeutic grade essential oils.
