What to do about Synthetic Food Dyes
Tuesday, 10 May 2011 21:00
May 2011—There’s a plan afoot, after all these years, to do something about the synthetic, petroleum-based food and beverage dyes that have been ubiquitous in our food chain for decades.

You wouldn’t think politics would be involved, but those close to the situation think it is, and as a result, for now anyway, the FDA is not planning to do much about the issue.

Safety in Numbers
Friday, 11 March 2011 18:03
March, 2011— Over the past weekend we had the pleasure of being with my brother, his friends and our extended family, to celebrate a significant birthday on his part. (I won’t say which one; that would be giving too much away, and it’s not the center of my story anyway.)

He is my only sibling and after he survived an early childhood of being frequently tormented by yours truly, we became close friends.

Stan the Man
Sunday, 07 November 2010 18:46
November 6, 2010 — It matters not if you are a fan, player or follower of baseball. Publication Day
Tuesday, 01 February 2011 21:03
February 1, 2011 – Here I am, writing to our readers on an intensely snowy day here in the Midwest, wishing for spring and wondering what 2011 is going to bring us.

You might recall that over a year ago I reported that I was writing a memoir (see “My Memoir” written and posted sometime in 2009, when I was still at it.)

Alternatives

October 8, 2010—Near the end of a column about “organic alternatives” written by Dr. Mehmet Oz, which appeared in a recent issue of TIME, there are several bulleted ‘shortcuts’ listed that concern “getting the best of organic without the cost.”

Obesity More Than Just An Issue
Thursday, 19 November 2009 19:07
Thursday, November 18, 2009 – A few months ago I offered a comment about the obesity problem (I used the word epidemic, which it is) in this country – and the world. My response centered on a recent article that said we’ve been programmed genetically to over-eat. As our species grew, we needed as much food as we could get out hands on to survive – literally.
