Bringing Out Our Best in Tough Times

There’s much to be said for being entrepreneurial – a word that comes from our French friends that means roughly a person who leads, by combining funds, work and brains to bring on something new that hopefully will change the world for the better.

And if things don’t work out, that person with the formerly big idea remains accountable – so one learns to take both the good and the bad.

It seems to me when times like these roll around, many people sharpen up, become more focused, and as a result, good things happen. Maybe it comes from having one’s back against the wall – or possibly it’s just the result of knowing things are tough, and you consciously or unconsciously begin doing things to make it less so.

Or maybe it brings out the public relations animal in me – which I pretty much am.

Historically, people living in this country, from the time when we were 13 colonies to today’s 50 states, have been given the edge on being ‘entrepreneurial’ – over those who have been doing much the same thing in other countries (Australia comes to mind; lots of cool blokes there) – but it happens all over the place, especially, it seems to me, when it’s nose-to-the-grindstone time.

I feel it happening now, and it’s not just me – those who I call my friends and associates agree with my assessment (sometimes they bring it up themselves.) Yes, I know – there are those who might think this is just wishful thinking – the old ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’ thing, and perhaps it is, but what the hell. It’s time to think big; focus. Good things are about to happen. Or maybe they’re happening as we speak…

Do you feel it too?
