It occurs to me often that advertising hype clouds so many products that the average consumer has got to be either confused or is playing a guessing game when it comes to purchasing.

Or maybe their heads really are being turned by some of garbage you see and hear. Who knows?
The bottled water industry, for example, has grown by leaps and bounds in just a few years, and shows no signs of leveling off. As it does, so do the product choices -- growing right along with the total numbers.

It’s what’s offered in these choices that bothers me – you know, it’s either all natural, from a secret spring somewhere, with this or that vitamin added, it’s distilled, has gone through reverse osmosis, has several coloring and taste choices – the list goes on and on.

Makes you wonder if some day they’ll begin offering ‘prizes’ inside the product: You know, you pick up a bottle, and you can see a little whatchamajig floating around inside, and you decide you’ve GOT to have that bottle, because you can’t live without that doodad suspended inside the plastic.

Whatever happened to good, old-fashioned, great tasting, unadulterated … WATER?

I will admit that I don’t like most of the tap water I have encountered throughout the years. The stuff they add to it in order to make it safe to drink (but which may eventually grow hair on your palms) usually gives it a funky taste. There are exceptions, but they’re tough to find.

When I was a kid I thought that well water, deposited in a large cooler big enough to house a chunk of REAL ice in with the water, was the sweetest, most wonderful example of H²O I had ever had the pleasure to quaff. During my college years I worked for a building contractor, and one of his finish carpenters would bring to work every day a large container of well water, floating in and around a large block of ice.

It was the most wonderful thing I’ve ever tasted – before or since.

So our preference today, if we’re being logical and practical and not being moved by the hype, should come down to TASTE and COST. What can you find that’s not priced out of sight, and which just tastes good? There’s one water out there, just getting underway, mostly in the southwest, called AquaX Water. We’ve written articles about it before and their ads have run on our pages as well. It’s pretty good.

The funny thing about this product is that there’s nothing inside the (biosphenol-free) bottle but … WATER. True, it does emanate from a ‘secret’ source (an aquifer near Sedona, Arizona) – but there’s no osmosis, no distilling, no fragrance, no color, no bells and whistles.

Just water.

It’s not expensive, and drinking it not only provides an excellent taste, it makes you feel good too. The bad news is that it’s not available everywhere yet. But if word of mouth is any indication, it’ll happen soon enough.
